Description

The depth and elegance of a Grand Cru Classe from the Haut-Medoc

One of the elite estates on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region, Chateau Belgrave offers the assurance of a classic Haut-Medoc style.

Under the realm of the Dourthe vineyards since 1979, Chateau Belgrave has benefited from major investments with a complete restructuring of its vineyards that are now certified as “Terra Vitis” (vineyards that use sustainable and integrated viticulture). Through the leadership of Frederic Bonnaffous, the vintages have undergone an evolution in quality and are safe investments for those who love the appellation.

From the vineyard to the winery, the 2017 vintage is one that is precise and responsive. A great wine from the estate, the Chateau Belgrave 2017 is the result of the constant efforts put in by the estate’s technical team. Although the vineyard was hit by frost at the end of April, the most beautiful plots escaped harm. The favorable weather conditions up until the harvest helped the vines produce healthy berries with optimal ripeness, which display a superb aromatic concentration and a lovely freshness.

Coming from a blend largely dominated by the symbolic grape of the Left Bank, the Chateau Belgrave 2017 displays all the personality of Cabernet Sauvignon (88%) supplemented by Merlot (12%). The beautiful dark color reveals berries that were filled with anthocyanins while the nose displays fruity aromas. The palate is juicy and dominated by the flavors and beautiful tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon that give it depth. An absolutely elegant Grand Cru Classé from the Haut-Medoc.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, 2017 Belgrave reveals notes of warm cassis, baked black cherries and preserved plums plus suggestions of garrigue and charcoal. Medium-bodied, the palate is a little thin and edgy with chewy tannins and crisp acid defining the finish.
